Compression Moulding
Compression moulding is a closed-mould manufacturing process. It involves metal moulds, to which external pressure is applied. It is ideal for producing large amounts of composites at lower costs than the other technologies on offer.
How it works
In this process, layers of carbon fibre, forged carbon or other layers of composite material are placed in the cavity of the preheated mould. Once the mould is closed, uniform pressure is applied across the whole surface. Heat and pressure are maintained until the composite material is polymerized: the resulting product thus has a low void content and high fibre ratio.
